Insights into IT - Bendigo

Technology and the Classroom (ICT)

Description:
Advances in IT can bring huge benefits to education and student access and engagement. However understanding these advances and how to effectively utilise them can be challenging to keep up with. As IT changes rapidly, teachers also need to develop confidence and skills in managing the ever-changing digital classroom. Access to technology isn't always guaranteed when working as a CRT but when it is accessible then having a broad understanding of how the technology can be used is essential. This in- person workshop takes you beyond the general discussion of what a digital classroom is and focuses on possibilities provided by technology. Insights into IT, will offer a range of ideas aimed at creating increased student participation, increased student voice, and a helpful approach to managing classroom administration. During this session, the presenter will cover some practical considerations for trouble shooting issues and explore the potential benefits of school Learning Management Systems such as Compass/Canvas. The presenter will also be demonstrating useful classroom-based activities utilising tools that can be accessed through Google Suite or microsoft online. The techniques involved can be implemented by CRTs on short term placements but are also valuable for those seeking longer term roles in schools.
