Description:
This session will explore the Google suite of programs and how those resources can be used when working on administrative tasks, in the library or with students in classroom settings. The Google package of tools can help streamline many tasks and help to control workload. The presenter will demonstrate the range of Google programs and illustrate some examples of what can be done. The key to this session will be setting aside time to experiment with the package of tools for your own needs and work context.

Description:
One key to being organised with your laptop or computer is to know how to manage your files. It is helpful to know what is stored on your computer and what and how information is stored in the cloud. It is important to understand common drives for your school and files that are on your computer only. This is designed as an introduction for those not feeling confident with a new computer.

In this course, the presenter will outline of the condition of ASD or Autism Spectrum Disorder. The presenter will explore some of the characteristics that are associated with the condition, how students with ASD might display those characteristics in a classroom setting or in a small group situation, and how the condition impacts on student learning. The presenter, an experienced teacher and leader will share some of the strategies that they have used when working with ES staff to support the learning of students with ASD. The session will offer ideas for ES staff to use with students and classroom strategies that could be implemented to improve partnerships between ES and teaching staff to achieve the best outcomes for students with ASD.

Schools and education workplaces are complex work environments where there can be intense pressure on the professional relationships between colleagues. It is important for ES staff to feel confident that they have the social and emotional competencies required to negotiate challenging conversations and conflict with colleagues. The presenter will focus on practical conflict resolution skills to manage these challenging conversations.

Description:
The AEU is invested in Education Support Staff members having control over their own career through developing their knowledge and skills and feeling confident about advancing their career by applying for new roles. In this session an experienced principal, a specialist in application writing, will share their techniques for preparing a high quality resume, writing effective applications and the fundamental skills for interviews. It will be an intense session covering a lot of ground in a short time - so come prepared to take notes. The session will be helpful whether you are looking for a new role at your current school or a role at a different school. It will be specific to Education Support Staff working in Victorian DET schools. Thhis session does NOT cover the re-classification process arising from the VGSA.

Description:
Education Support staff can be the first point of contact for parents and caregivers, who may be feeling high levels of anxiety or frustration with the school or workplace. Parents and caregivers may also be unfamiliar with school processes. This can lead to difficult and challenging conversations. This session will outline the social and emotional competencies needed to manage difficult conversations with parents and will explore proactive strategies to create a positive climate for interactions with parents. The presenter will focus on practical skills to manage these difficult conversations.
