Approaches to classroom management and boundaries

Description:
Working with young children and adolescents is challenging work. There are many approaches to supporting students in classroom and school settings. Understanding different models of classroom management and how they can be applied in the classroom will assist Education Support staff to align their own practices with the school approach, and support consistency in the classroom when working directly with students. A key part of the role of Education Support staff is to establish appropriate and consistent behavioural boundaries and model healthy emotional regulation. Our work is rewarding when we develop positive relationships, and we observe the learning and growth of the students we are working with. In this session the presenter will outline strategies to set boundaries.

    Course Length: 2 hours

Supporting disengaged students

Description:
There are many reasons that students become disengaged from classroom based learning. When it does happen, Education Support staff can be called on to support that student in a one-to-one situation or in small groups. In this session the presenter will explore some of the reasons students become disengaged and then suggest different approaches that can be used by Education Support staff to re-engage those students in the learning community. The key is preventative strategies and then restorative approaches once things have gone awry.

    Course Length: 1 hour
